Kryptologia współcześnie ma tak szerokie zastosowanie, że nie wielu ludzi zdaje sobie sprawę, iż co dzień ją wykorzystuje np. płacąc kartą kredytową lub bankomatową, robiąc przelew internetowy, logując się do komputera czy też robiąc zakupy przez Internet.

There are many methods of encryption, but in the era of computers, the traditional ways are gone and forgotten, because they are easy to break. Cryptology today is so widely used that many people do not realize that it uses every day such as paying by credit card or ATM, making the transfer online, by logging on to a computer or making purchases over the Internet.
