Badaniem zostało objętych 92 gimnazjalistów (51 dziewczyn i 41 chłopców) uczęszczających do klas trzecich Gimnazjum w Chełmcu.
The present paper aims at defining the extent of online advertising messages’ impact on consumer behaviours of middle school children. The author found it increasingly interesting to establish the persuasion and manipulation techniques used in online advertising, which appeal most to teenagers as well as the degree to which young people are influenced by them.
In the research part of the paper, the author analyses the central persuasion strategy of the ELM model which is based on rational reasoning and attempts at establishing the manipulation rules used by advertising message senders on the Internet influencing both consumer attitudes and behaviours of middle school children.
The research methods which have been applied by the author include the formulation of the problem, research objectives and hypotheses. All of them have been reviewed in the paper. The research questionnaire was addressed to 92 teenagers (51 girls and 41 boys) attending the third class of the middle school in Chełmiec. The research questionnaire covers both categorized semi-open and closed questions and the stress scales of attitudes’ sign. The analysis of responders’ opinions showed that the rational reasoning concerning the price, quality, usefulness and technical parameters of the advertised products appeals to teenagers and persuades them to buy a product. It has also been proved that the individualism of the advertising message and its interactivity have a positive influence on bevaviours and purchase decisions. Among four selected manipulation rules, the ones that seemed to be the most influential were social proof, liking and authority. The reciprocity manipulation rule turned out to be the least influential when it comes to teenagers’ purchase decisions.
