Abstract

Article presented below is regarding to European Research Area, especially concerning problems of universities functioning in knowledge society. Author focuses on the draft of European Union science policy, especially taking into consideration Lisbon Strategy regarding to research and development financing. Also article involves such topics as role of universities among knowledge society as well as universities’ modernization problems in sphere of science research and innovations. Especially, it focuses on opportunities and challenges that have to be accepted by universities that would like to take part into European Research Area, and be involved into building knowledge society.
