Osobowościowe korelaty empatii u studentów

Abstract

Empatia jest zjawiskiem rozpoznawanym już od początków ludzkiej cywilizacji. Oznacza zdolność wyobrażenia sobie, jak ktoś inny może myśleć i czuć. Osoba empatyczna potrafi przybrać perspektywę drugiego człowieka. Psychologowie tłumaczą zjawisko empatii, jako umiejętność zrozumienia sposobu myślenia innej osoby, przyjęcia perspektywy drugiego człowieka. W niniejszej pracy pojawiają się twierdzenia takich uczonych jak Lipps, Rogers, Hoffmana lub Uchnast. Badania przeprowadzono za pomocą kwestionariusza KEO stworzonego przez Zenona Uchnasta oraz NEO-FFI stworzonego przez Costa i McRace, który został zaadoptowany przez Zawadzkiego i Strelau. W badaniu od stycznia do marca 2015 roku udział wzięło 125 osób w wieku od 18 do 44 lat, z czego 80% stanowiły kobiety. Głównym pytaniem postawionym w pracy było: czy istnieje związek między cechami osobowości, a empatią u osób obecnie studiujących? Dodatkowo, pytaniami poruszanymi w pracy są te, dotyczące relacji pomiędzy wiekiem badanych osób oraz ich cechami osobowości i poziomu empatii jakie pokazują. Co więcej, połączenia między czasem studiowania respondentów i ich cechami osobowości oraz czasu studiów i poziomu empatii. Również poziom empatii i cech osobowościowych były analizowane z perspektywy płci. Badania doprowadziły do następujących ustaleń. Zaobserwowano, że wraz z wiekiem badanych wzrosła ich sumienność, co udowodniło, że wiek wpływa na cechy osobowości; należy jednak zauważyć, że wiek respondentów nie ma wpływu na poziom empatii. Wyniki pokazały również, że czas, jaki studiowali respondenci nie ma wpływu na poziom empatii; jednak ma wpływ na niektóre z cech osobowości. Na podstawie kwestionariusza wnioskować można, że istnieje związek między cechami osobowości i empatii wśród obecnych studentów. W związku z tym dodatnie cechy charakteru wpływają na poziom empatii.

Empathy is a phenomenon that was recognised from the early stages of the development of human civilisation. It represents the human ability to imagine how another person may think or feel. Psychologists explain feeling empathy as feeling the gestures, words and action patterns as one’s own. In the present thesis the theorem of such scholars as Lipps, Rogers, Hoffman or Uchnast have been presented among others. The aim of the present thesis was to present the personality correlates of empathy among students. The main question is whether there is a connection between the personality traits and empathy among the currently studying people. Additionally, the questions touched in the thesis are the ones concerning the relations between the age of the surveyed people and their personality traits and the levels of empathy they show. The research was conducted by using the Personal Empathy Questionnaire (KEO in Polish) by Zenon Uchnast and Personality Inventory NEO-FFI by Costa and McRace as adapted by Zawadzki and Strelau. The surveyed individuals participated in the surveys between January and March of 2015. There were 125 people with 80% of women and from age of 18 to 44. The study resulted in the following findings. It has been observed that with the age of the respondents increased their conscientiousness which proved that the age influences the personality traits; however it also occurred that the age of the respondents does not influence their empathy. The results also showed that the time the students study cannot be clearly connected to their empathy levels; however it influenced some of the personality traits. The NEO-FFI questionnaire results shoed that there is a connection between the personality traits and empathy among current students. Therefore, the positive personality traits influence the levels of empathy.
