W swojej pracy inżynierskiej zawarłem informacje o protokole komunikacyjnym IPv6. Przykładowe konfiguracje sieci stworzone są w programie Cisco Packet Tracer. Packet tracer jest emulatorem sieci i routerów Cisco. Dzięki niemu można stwarzać sieci oraz konfigurować urządzenia sieciowe. Zawarte są również informacje o protokołach komunikacyjnych IPv4 oraz IPv6. Zawierają one: budowę adresu, typy adresów, adresy specjalne, budowę nagłówka oraz informacje o ICMP. Stworzone są również 3 topologie, które mają przedstawić działanie adresacji opartej o IPv4 oraz IPv6, protokoły routingu takie jak: OSPF, OSPFv3, RIPng. Jest również przykład translacji adresów NAT46 oraz NAT64. Z powodu kończącej się puli adresów IPv4 stworzony został nowy protokół komunikacyjny IPv6, który jest następcą protokołu IPv4. Dzięki niemu pula adresów została zwiększona o tyle, że wystarczy na potrzeby dzisiejszego świata. Migracja z adresacji IPv4 do IPv6 potrwa kilkadziesiąt lub więcej lat. W obecnym czasie są już stworzone mechanizmy przejścia od sieci IPv4 do sieci IPv6, dzięki którym istnieje możliwość komunikacji sieci IPv4 z sieciami IPv6 i vice versa.
