percepcją postaw rodzicielskich swych matek i ojców. Realizowanym programem
badawczym objętych zostało 150 uczniów szkół ponadgimnazjalnych w tym 75 dziewcząt i 75 chłopców uczęszczających do III klas Liceum Ogólnokształcącego. Do badania
wykorzystano Wielowymiarowy Kwestionariusz Samooceny autorstwa E. J. O'Briena i S.

Self – esteem is an important factor controlling the social functioning of each
individual. It is also necessary in order to compare one’s own behavior with the behaviors of others, and thereby distinguish oneself from the rest of the society and create an image of one’s own person. Particular significance in the shaping of this image of oneself is attached to the attitudes of parents and the parenting styles which they apply. The purpose of the MA thesis was an analysisof the relationship between selfesteem in teenagers and their perception of the parenting attitudes of their mothers and fathers. The research program performed covered 150 high school students: 75 girls and 75 boys from the third grades of general secondary schools. The examination was based on the Multidimensional Self-Esteem Questionnaire by E. J.O'Brien and S. Epstein and the Parenting Position Scale by M. Plopa, in versions considering the role of mothers and fathers. Statistical analysis of the empirical data revealed statistically significant differences in the perception of the parenting attitudes of both mothers and fathers by young people of high and low self-esteem. Children with high self-esteem, in comparison to children with low self-esteem, tend to perceive their parents as more accepting, allowing of a greater degree of autonomy, and at the same time less demanding and consistent. The results of the study confirmed the hypotheses adopted and indicate the presence of a significant relationship between the attitudes of parents and the general self-esteem of their children, also in its individual measurements. |
