Pozycja Percepcja zachowań rodzicielskich przez osoby w wieku wyłaniającej się dorosłości a ich style tożsamości(2013-06-23 12:13:57) Hubiak, Dominika; Grygielski, MichałThe purpose of this study was to examine the extent to which perceived parental behaviour (acceptance – rejection, psychological control – psychological autonomy and firm control – lax control) accounted for variation in identity styles as conceptualized by M.D. Berzonsky (2004a, 2011a). Given the research, the current study adopted the rationale of I. Smits et al (2008) and M.D. Berzonsky et al (2011b) and expanded on their research with the aim of investigating the effects of perceived parental behaviour on three identity styles in an Australian emerging adults’ sample. To more broadly assess what specific parental behaviours predicted identity styles, the Identity Style Inventory Revised (ISI -3) provided by M.D. Berzonsky and the Children’s Report of Parent Behaviour Inventory (CRPBI) by E and S Schludermann were employed in the current study. Participants were 55 females and 42 males (N = 97) emerging adults between the ages of 18 - 22 (mean age = 20 years). The hypotheses were partially supported and some conflicting results were found. Specifically, perceived paternal behavioural control and psychological control but not parental acceptance was associated with the informational style. The normative identity style was positively predicted by perceived maternal acceptance and paternal behavioural control. The diffuse avoidant identity style was only positively associated with perceived maternal rejection. Lastly, commitment was related to perceived maternal acceptance and paternal behaviour control. Implications and conclusions were grounded in the rationale of previous researchers. The results are preliminary; however shed light on the processes involved in the socialization of emerging adults’ styles of identity exploration.
