Martin Luther – O wolności chrześcijanina Wielowymiarowa analiza koncepcji wolności: perspektywa teologiczna, filozoficzna i psychologiczna

Abstract

Artykuł przedstawia koncepcję wolności chrześcijańskiej Martina Luther`a, odwołując się do jego przełomowego traktatu „O wolności chrześcijanina” z 1520 roku, zaliczanego do najważniejszych tekstów reformacji. Autor ukazuje, że Luter formułuje w nim paradoksalną, a zarazem niezwykle inspirującą tezę: chrześcijanin w wymiarze wiary jest wolnym panem, nikomu niepodległym, natomiast w wymiarze miłości staje się służebnym sługą wszystkich ludzi. Wolność ta nie jest efektem moralnych wysiłków, ascetycznych praktyk ani sumy dobrych uczynków, lecz wynika wyłącznie z wiary w Chrystusa. To właśnie wiara uwalnia człowieka od rygoryzmu prawa, lęku przed potępieniem oraz destrukcyjnego poczucia winy. Usprawiedliwienie przez wiarę oznacza przede wszystkim wewnętrzne wyzwolenie: zerwanie z przymusem ciągłego samousprawiedliwienia się i budowania własnej wartości na spełnianiu zewnętrznych norm. Artykuł analizuje tę koncepcję w perspektywie teologicznej, filozoficznej i psychologicznej, wskazując na jej aktualność oraz uniwersalny, ponad konfesyjny wymiar antropologiczny.

The article presents Martin Luther’s concept of Christian freedom, drawing on his groundbreaking treatise On the Freedom of a Christian (1520), one of the foundational texts of the Reformation. It shows how Luther formulates a paradoxical yet remarkably influential thesis: in the sphere of faith, a Christian is a free lord, subject to no one, while in the sphere of love the same person becomes a devoted servant of all. This tension between freedom and service lies at the heart of Luther’s understanding of the Christian life. Such freedom is not the result of moral striving, ascetic discipline, or the accumulation of good works, but arises solely from faith in Christ. Faith liberates the human person from the rigidity of the law, the fear of divine judgment, and destructive feelings of guilt. Justification by faith therefore signifies above all an inner liberation: a release from the compulsion to justify oneself and to construct personal value through obedience to external norms. The article analyzes this concept from theological, philosophical, and psychological perspectives, emphasizing its continuing relevance and its universal anthropological significance.
