The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between self-esteem and the severity of state anxiety and trait anxiety among a group of students. Students belong to a group that faces many challenges and pressures associated with functioning in the academic environment and in everyday life. For this reason, both self-esteem and anxiety are of significant importance, as they constitute an integral part of the experiences related to their functioning in the academic environment. The study was conducted anonymously and voluntarily using a questionnaire. Among the 121 students surveyed, women predominated (72,7%), with the majority of participants aged 21-25. The Multidimensional self-esteem inventory (MSEI), the State-trait anxiety inventory (STAI), and a self-constructed questionnaire were used for measurement. It was found that the level of self-esteem is significantly associated with the severity of state anxiety and trait anxiety, even after controlling for demographic variables. However, no significant differences were found between women and men in the levels of both state anxiety, trait anxiety, and self-esteem. Therefore, it may be beneficial to strengthen self-esteem through the student's own efforts, those of their close ones, as well as through the academic staff, in order to reduce the level of perceived anxiety.
