Podkreślono potrzebę budowania zintegrowanego, długofalowego systemu wsparcia weteranów w Ukrainie, łączącego wczesną diagnostykę PTSD i ryzyka samobójczego z dostępem do terapii traumy oraz włączeniem rodziny i środowiska lokalnego w proces reintegracji społecznej.
The aim of this study was to gain an in-depth understanding of the relationship between the severity of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms and suicidal ideation among Ukrainian soldiers undergoing the process of social reintegration, with particular consideration of cognitive functioning as well as risk and protective factors. The study was conducted using a qualitative case study approach involving five soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine temporarily returning from the frontline. A semi-structured interview and standardized psychometric instruments were used: the PTSD Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5), the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS), and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA).The analysis demonstrated that the relationship between PTSD symptom severity and suicidal ideation is complex and influenced by co-occurring sleep disturbances, feelings of guilt, experiences of moral injury, reintegration difficulties, and the level of social support. Some participants demonstrated relatively good adaptive functioning associated with high psychological resilience, stable family relationships, a sense of responsibility toward loved ones, and adaptive coping strategies. The study emphasizes the need to develop an integrated and long-term support system for veterans in Ukraine, combining early diagnosis of PTSD and suicide risk with access to trauma-focused therapy and the involvement of family members and local communities in the process of social reintegration.
