T The aim of this study was to determine the role of alcohol in anxiety regulation and to analyze the relationship between anxiety levels and the severity of alcohol dependence. The research problem focused on assessing whether individuals who use alcohol as a means of coping with emotional tension and anxiety exhibit a higher severity of addiction symptoms. The theoretical part of the thesis discusses issues related to alcohol dependence, mechanisms of addictive emotion regulation, psychological aspects of anxiety, and the relationship between anxiety and alcohol use. The study was conducted among 100 adults aged 30 to 50 years. The clinical group consisted of 45 individuals undergoing treatment for alcohol dependence, while the comparison group comprised 55 individuals without a diagnosis of alcohol dependence. The following psychological assessment tools were used in the research process: the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT). The statistical and psychological analyses performed enabled the verification of the research hypotheses and the formulation of final conclusions. The obtained results did not confirm the main research hypothesis assuming a positive relationship between anxiety levels and the severity of alcohol dependence. No significant associations were found between anxiety levels and the scores obtained in the AUDIT questionnaire. The findings suggest that the relationship between anxiety and alcohol dependence is more complex than initially assumed and may be influenced by other psychological and environmental factors. The conducted research indicates the need for further studies incorporating additional variables related to emotion regulation, coping strategies, and the co-occurrence of other mental disorders.en
