Praca podkreśla znaczenie wsparcia psychologicznego, profilaktyki przeciążenia psychicznego i stałego monitorowania dobrostanu sportowców w dyscyplinach indywidualnych.
This thesis examines the occurrence of depressive symptoms among athletes in individual sports, using competitive divers as a case study. The aim was not only to describe the severity of depressive symptoms, but also to identify how stress-coping styles and self-regulation are related to the athletes’ psychological condition. The study was conducted as a multiple case study involving five professional divers. It combined qualitative and quantitative methods and used the CISS, BDI-II, and KPD questionnaires to capture both the scale and the individual character of the phenomenon. The results showed a varied picture of psychological functioning. In most participants, a task-oriented coping style and a low or minimal level of depressive symptoms were observed. However, some athletes showed elevated indicators of lowered mood, guilt, pessimism, mental exhaustion, and concentration difficulties. The analysis also indicated that higher self-regulation was associated with better psychological adjustment and a lower severity of depressive symptoms. The thesis highlights the importance of psychological support, prevention of mental overload, and regular monitoring of athletes’ mental well-being in individual sports.
