The main aim of this study was to determine the relationships between the perceived involvement of God, or the lack thereof, in response to prayer, experiences of anxiety and depression, humor styles, and the quality of life of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. To achieve this aim, the following instruments were used: the Brief Scale of Perceived Divine Engagement or Non-Engagement in Response to Prayer (PDED), the Brief Measure of Anxiety and Depression (DBR-SIS and BSD), the Humor Styles Questionnaire (HSQ), and the McGill Quality of Life Questionnaire (MQOL-R). The study participants were cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy at the Provincial Specialist Hospital named after Dr. J. Korczak in Słupsk. Paper questionnaires and Google Forms were made available to patients in the departments of clinical oncology and chemotherapy, hematology, urology, and oncological surgery. The results indicate that spirituality and religiosity may function as a resource supporting adaptation to cancer, sustaining hope, a sense of meaning and value in life, and facilitating coping with existential anxiety. The study also confirmed that the severity of anxiety and depressive symptoms is negatively associated with the quality of life of patients undergoing chemotherapy. The findings further showed that humor styles are clearly related to quality of life: adaptive styles may support psychological well-being and social relationships, whereas maladaptive styles, including self-defeating humor, more often co-occur with poorer psychological functioning.
