This study examines the relationship between stress coping styles and levels of occupational burnout among psychologists working in psychological and educational counselling centres. The aim of the study was to determine whether preferred stress coping strategies are associated with the severity of occupational burnout, and whether selected demographic and occupational variables influence the phenomena under analysis. The study was conducted among psychologists employed in psychological and educational counselling centres, using self-report methods to measure stress coping styles and levels of occupational burnout. The analysis examined task-focused, emotion-focused and avoidance-focused styles, as well as selected aspects of the avoidance style. The results indicate that stress coping styles are associated with the level of occupational burnout. The task-focused style was associated with more adaptive functioning, whereas the emotion-focused style and selected aspects of the avoidance style were associated with higher levels of burnout. The results highlight the importance of developing effective stress coping strategies and the need to safeguard the well-being of psychologists working in counselling centres.
