The aim of this thesis was to analyze the impact of the intensity and problematic use of social media on the psychological well-being and self-esteem of young adults, with particular emphasis on the role of social comparisons and emotion regulation. Social media represent an important element of everyday functioning among young people, influencing communication, interpersonal relationships, identity formation, and self-perception. The theoretical part of the thesis covers key concepts related to psychological well-being, self-esteem, self-image, emotion regulation, and social comparison theory. It also presents research findings highlighting the complex and multidimensional impact of social media on psychological functioning, including mechanisms of social validation, self-presentation, and exposure to idealized online content. The empirical part is based on original research conducted among young adult social media users. The study examined relationships between the intensity and problematic use of social media, social comparisons, emotion regulation strategies, self-esteem, and psychological well-being. The results indicate that problematic social media use may be associated with lower psychological well-being and self-esteem, as well as a higher tendency toward negative social comparisons. Emotion regulation plays a significant role in these relationships. The findings suggest that the impact of social media on psychological functioning is multidimensional and depends on both usage patterns and individual differences.en
