The aim of this study was to examine the relationships between the sense of meaning in life, value preferences, personality traits, and self-esteem among individuals in the period of emerging adulthood. The study involved 81 participants aged 18 to 21 years. The thesis also discusses the concept of self-esteem, the factors influencing its development, and its significance for the psychosocial functioning of individuals transitioning from adolescence to adulthood. In the empirical part of the study, analyses were conducted to investigate the relationships among the examined variables. The following instruments were used: the Purpose in Life Test (PIL), the Rokeach Value Survey, Cattell’s Self-Analysis Form, the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, and a self-developed demographic questionnaire. The results indicated significant relationships between the sense of meaning in life, preferred values, selected personality traits, and self-esteem. Partial gender differences were also found in the analyzed variables. The findings highlight the importance of psychological resources, such as a sense of meaning in life, a positive self-image, and emotional stability, for the functioning of young people during the period of emerging adulthood.
