Social media currently constitute one of the primary environments in which young people function. Their importance during adolescence is particularly significant, as they are in a period of intense identity formation, self-esteem, autonomy, and social relationships. Therefore, the way they use social media may be related to their psychological well-being. The aim of this study was to understand the relationship between social media use and the psychological functioning of young people. Particular attention was paid to three areas: the severity of the fear of missing out, or FOMO, the level of symptoms of problematic social media use, and psychological well-being. The study aimed to determine whether FOMO and problematic social media use coexist with lower levels of psychological well-being in the studied students. The conducted research allowed us to achieve this goal. The study included 100 school-aged individuals. A quantitative method based on a diagnostic survey was used. Przybylski's FOMO Scale, the Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale, the Ryff Psychological Well-Being Scale, and a supplementary questionnaire were used. The data obtained allowed for the description of social media use patterns, the assessment of the levels of the analyzed variables, and the examination of the relationships between them.en
