Ninejsza praca dotyczy problematyki motywacji do nauki jako istotnego czynnika warunkującego funkcjonowanie uczniów szkół średnich. Motywacja została przedstawiona jako wielowymiarowy konstrukt psychologiczny, obejmujący zarówno wewnętrzne mechanizmy regulujące zachowanie jednostki, jak i wpływy środowiskowe. Szczególne znaczenie przypisano jej roli w podejmowaniu aktywności edukacyjnej, wytrwałości w realizowaniu obowiązków szkolnych, gotowości do wysiłku intelektualnego oraz radzeniu sobie z trudnościami.
The master thesis addresses the issue of motivation to learn as an important factor determining the functioning of secondary school students. Motivation is presented as a multidimensional psychological construct that includes both internal mechanisms regulating an individual’s behaviour and environmental influences. Particular importance is attributed to its role in initiating educational activity, maintaining persistence in fulfilling school duties, demonstrating readiness for intellectual effort, and coping with difficulties. The thesis emphasises that adolescence is a period of intense cognitive, emotional, and social changes, which may affect students’ level of motivation. An important element of the school environment is feedback, including praise and criticism, which may influence students’ self-esteem, sense of competence, and readiness to continue learning. Praise may support the development of a sense of agency and a positive attitude towards learning, whereas excessive, unfair, or personal criticism may lead to reduced engagement, frustration, and emotional tension. The main subject of the thesis is the analysis of the relationship between motivation to learn and the level of hostility among secondary school students. The study also takes into account differences related to gender and type of school, which makes it possible to determine whether female and male students, as well as students attending general secondary schools, technical schools, and vocational schools, differ in terms of their level of motivation to learn, amotivation, and hostility. The thesis assumes that the analysis of these relationships may contribute to a better understanding of the emotional and social functioning of adolescents in the educational environment. The study employed the Learning Motivation Questionnaire and the Mood and Humour Test which make it possible to assess the relationship between students’ motivational and emotional spheres.
