Zachowania szkodliwe i ryzykowne w środowisku online a rozwój zaburzeń lękowych u dzieci w wieku szkolnym
The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between children’s and adolescents’ online functioning and the severity of anxiety symptoms. The theoretical part presents the Internet environment as a contemporary space of socialization and discusses selected online risk factors, including cyberbullying, social ostracism, social comparison, appearance pressure, fear of missing out (FOMO), and exposure to inappropriate online content. The study also reviews psychosocial development in childhood and adolescence as well as the clinical perspective on anxiety disorders. The study involved 100 primary school students aged 10–14 years. The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children (STAI-C), the Social Anxiety Scale for Adolescents (SAS-A), and an original questionnaire concerning online functioning were used. Statistical analyses included Spearman’s rank correlations and linear regression analysis. The results revealed a positive relationship between problematic Internet use and trait anxiety. Risky online functioning was identified as a significant predictor of trait anxiety. Experiences of cyberbullying, online ostracism, and social rejection were associated with higher levels of both social anxiety and trait anxiety. Positive associations were also found between social comparison on social media and both social anxiety and trait anxiety. The findings indicate that digital environment experiences are significantly related to the psychological well-being and emotional functioning of children and adolescents.
