This master’s thesis addresses the relationship between experiences resulting from dysfunctional families and the emotional functioning of young adults, understood through the level of perceived stress and life satisfaction. The study was conducted among young adults using an online survey, which included the ACE Questionnaire, the Perceived Stress Scale PSS-10, and the Satisfaction with Life Scale SWLS. The research hypotheses were verified by analyzing the relationships between the intensity of adverse childhood experiences and selected aspects of psychological well-being. The obtained results indicated that a significant proportion of the respondents declared the presence of adverse childhood experiences, with the largest group consisting of individuals who reported four or more ACEs. It was found that a higher intensity of ACEs co-occurred with a higher level of perceived stress. The relationship between ACEs and life satisfaction requires cautious interpretation, as the assessment of one’s own life also depends on current life circumstances, social relationships, and individual resources. The conducted research partially confirmed the adopted hypotheses and indicated the importance of family history in understanding the emotional difficulties of young adults. The conclusions of the thesis emphasize the need to consider family experiences in psychological diagnosis, prevention, and supportive interventions.en
