The subject of this thesis is a comparative analysis of methods for predicting customer lifetime value (CLV). The thesis is set within the context of PPC marketing and addresses the issue of rising customer acquisition costs (CAC). The empirical study utilised the CRISP-DM methodology on a real-world e-commerce transaction dataset, ‘Online Retail II’. The programm used to process the data was Python in the Colab environment. The thesis describes the use of the BG/NBD and Gamma-Gamma algorithms in comparison with a competing approach based on the Random Forest algorithm. In the case of the dataset under study, the Random Forest algorithm performed significantly better, as evidenced by lower statistical errors (RMSE and MAE). The hypotheses put forward were confirmed. The dataset exhibited strong positive skewness, consistent with the Pareto principle. Furthermore, customers acquired during promotional periods proved to be less loyal. Based on the results obtained, it is recommended that the company move away from the short-term ROAS metric and focus on Value-Based Bidding and the use of transactional data to reduce customer churn in the VIP segment.
