Celem pracy było określenie nasilenia objawów depresyjnych i poziomu postrzeganego stresu oraz identyfikacja stylów radzenia sobie u matek wychowujących dzieci z zaburzeniami ze spektrum autyzmu i umiarkowaną niepełnosprawnością intelektualną. Badanie miało charakter wielokrotnego studium przypadku (n = 5) i zastosowało podejście mieszane: Inwentarz Depresji Becka (BDI‑II), Skala PSS‑10, Mini‑COPE oraz pogłębione wywiady i obserwację kliniczną.
The aim of the study was to determine the severity of depressive symptoms and the level of perceived stress, as well as to identify coping styles in mothers raising twelve-year-old children with autism spectrum disorders and moderate intellectual disability. The study was a multiple case study (n = 5) and used a mixed-methods approach: Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II), PSS-10 Scale, Mini-COPE, as well as in-depth interviews and clinical observation. Quantitative results showed clinically significant severity of depressive symptoms in 80% of participants and a moderate to high level of perceived stress in 80% of the participants. Qualitative analysis revealed five common narrative themes: chronic fatigue, anxiety about the child’s future, ambivalence about the caregiving role, lack of personal time, and social isolation. The comparative analysis indicated that the dominant coping style differentiates psychological well-being more strongly than objective difficulties: active strategies were associated with lower levels of depression and stress, while avoidance strategies were linked to poorer functioning. The conclusions emphasize the need for individual psychosocial support for mothers as well as systemic solutions aimed at strengthening adaptive resources and the availability of institutional support. The paper formulates clinical and policy recommendations aimed at improving caregiver well-being.
