The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between a diagnosis of reading and writing difficulties and levels of working memory and processing speed, measured by the WMI and PSI indices. The research used a quantitative, cross‑sectional, correlational design and included secondary data from 63 participants, considering age, sex, diagnostic status, and cognitive scores. The theoretical section outlined the nature of reading and writing difficulties and discussed how limitations in working memory and processing efficiency may influence school functioning, particularly in tasks requiring simultaneous information maintenance and time‑dependent performance. The empirical section employed nonparametric group comparisons and rank‑based analyses to assess associations between diagnostic status and cognitive indices, as well as the relationship between WMI and PSI. The results showed that individuals with a diagnosis of reading and writing difficulties demonstrated lower levels of working memory and processing speed, and a positive association was found between WMI and PSI. No significant differences were observed by sex, nor were significant associations found with age.
