Zastosowano trzy standaryzowane narzędzia badawcze: Kwestionariusz Inteligencji Emocjonalnej (INTE), Skalę Samooceny Rosenberga (SES) oraz kwestionariusz Radzenia Sobie w Sytuacjach Stresowych (CISS).
The aim of this study was to provide a theoretical introduction to the concepts of emotional intelligence, stress coping styles, and self-esteem, as well as to present their main theoretical frameworks. An attempt was made to analyze the relationships between these variables among high school students in their final (matura) year and to formulate conclusions relevant to pedagogical practice. The study involved 140 purposefully selected students. Three standardized research instruments were utilized: the Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire (INTE), the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (SES), and the Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations (CISS). The results indicate that the structure of emotional intelligence among the surveyed youth is not unambiguous; no predominance of the ability to recognize emotions over the ability to utilize them was found. The task-oriented coping style emerged as the dominant approach to stress, suggesting a diversity of applied coping strategies. A partial positive correlation was confirmed between emotional intelligence and self-esteem. It was also demonstrated that a higher level of emotional intelligence promotes a more frequent use of the task-oriented style. However, no significant correlation was confirmed between emotional intelligence and emotion-oriented neither avoidance-oriented coping. Additionally, higher self-esteem was found to be associated with a preference for the task-oriented style. Regression analyses revealed that emotional intelligence constitutes a significant predictor of both self-esteem and the task-oriented coping style, which highlights its importance in the psychological functioning of adolescents.
