Celem niniejszej pracy jest zbadanie związku między wybranymi aspektami funkcjonowania psychospołecznego osób przebywających za granicą a nasileniem objawów depresyjnych, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem roli poczucia wyobcowania, stresu akulturacyjnego, dostępności wsparcia społecznego, charakteru relacji międzykulturowych oraz poziomu adaptacji do nowego środowiska. Badaniem objęto grupę 110 emigrantów, którzy wypełnili Inwentarz Depresji Becka (BDI-II), Skalę Odczuwanego Stresu (PSS-10) oraz autorski kwestionariusz psychospołeczny. Do analizy zastosowano korelację rho Spearmana i test U Manna-Whitneya.
The aim of this thesis is to examine the relationship between selected aspects of the psychosocial functioning of individuals residing abroad and the severity of depressive symptoms, with particular emphasis on the role of sense of alienation, acculturative stress, availability of social support, the nature of intercultural relationships, and the level of adaptation to a new environment. The study involved a group of 110 emigrants who completed the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II), the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), and an original psychosocial questionnaire; Spearman's rho correlation and the Mann-Whitney U test were used for analysis. The results confirmed that heightened feelings of alienation and social isolation, as well as higher levels of stress associated with living abroad, significantly correlate with greater severity of depressive symptoms, whereas access to social support and a higher degree of adaptation to the new environment serve as protective factors; depression is not an inevitable consequence of migration, but its risk increases under conditions of close relationship deficits, adaptation difficulties, and a lack of rootedness in the new setting, pointing to the need for designing targeted psychological support for individuals who emigrate.
