Strategie regulacji emocji a nasilenie objawów stresu pourazowego u funkcjonariuszy Policji
Analizy statystyczne przeprowadzono z wykorzystaniem programu IBM SPSS Statistics.
The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between emotion regulation strategies and the severity of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms among police officers. The theoretical part discusses the issue of PTSD, emotion regulation, and the importance of regulatory strategies in the functioning of individuals exposed to chronic stress and traumatic experiences. Particular attention was paid to cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression as the main emotion regulation strategies described in Gross’s model. The study was conducted among 102 active-duty police officers. The Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) by Gross and John and the Impact of Event Scale – Revised (IES-R) were used to assess emotion regulation strategies and the severity of PTSD symptoms. Statistical analyses were performed using IBM SPSS Statistics software. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analysis, and linear regression analysis were applied to verify the research hypotheses. The results revealed a significant positive relationship between expressive suppression and the severity of PTSD symptoms, as well as a significant negative relationship between cognitive reappraisal and PTSD symptom severity. Regression analysis additionally demonstrated that both emotion regulation strategies were significant predictors of PTSD severity. Expressive suppression was identified as a positive predictor of post-traumatic symptoms, whereas cognitive reappraisal played a protective role. The findings indicate that emotion regulation may play an important role in the process of adaptation to traumatic experiences among police officers. The obtained results highlight the importance of preventive and psychoeducational interventions aimed at strengthening adaptive emotion regulation strategies among law enforcement officers.
