Traumatic experiences during childhood, such as physical, emotional or sexual abuse, neglect, the loss of a loved one, or growing up in an unstable environment, have a significant impact on an individual’s psychological development and their functioning in adulthood. Numerous studies show that such experiences increase vulnerability to the development of anxiety disorders and depression. The mechanisms underlying the development of these dysfunctions are complex and involve both biological and psychosocial factors. Trauma experienced in early life leads to lasting changes in the HPA axis, which is responsible for the stress response. Negative experiences also influence the development of cognitive patterns, such as low self-esteem, a negative perception of the world, and difficulties in forming secure relationships. Consequently, this leads to a higher incidence of anxiety symptoms, chronic stress, and depressive episodes in adults. The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between early childhood trauma and the development of vulnerability to anxiety disorders and depression. It is of a theoretical and empirical nature. The study involved 101 participants who had experienced trauma in childhood.
