Uzyskane wyniki wykazały istotne zależności pomiędzy retrospektywnie ocenianymi postawami matki a wybranymi strategiami regulacji emocji i rozwiązywania konfliktów.
The family is the first environment in which a child learns to understand emotions, build relationships, and respond to conflict situations. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between retrospectively assessed maternal attitudes and emotion regulation strategies as well as conflict resolution strategies in adult romantic relationships. The study involved 101 adults. The following instruments were used: the Retrospective Assessment of Parental Attitudes Questionnaire (KPR-Roc) by M. Plopa, the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ-S), the Thomas–Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument (TKI), and an open-ended question concerning childhood memories of conflicts involving the mother. A mixed-methods approach was applied, including correlational, regression, and qualitative analyses. The results revealed significant relationships between retrospectively assessed maternal attitudes and selected emotion regulation and conflict resolution strategies. Maternal acceptance and autonomy were associated with more frequent use of cognitive reappraisal and more constructive conflict resolution strategies, whereas demandingness and inconsistency were related to less adaptive patterns of functioning. Qualitative analyses indicated that memories of conflicts involving the mother remain an important reference point in the interpretation of adult interpersonal relationships. The findings suggest that experiences within the mother–child relationship may be associated with later emotional and interpersonal functioning. At the same time, they confirm that patterns acquired in childhood can be both maintained and consciously modified throughout life.en
