The aim of this study was to analyze the usefulness of the Early Childhood Development (SRMD) screening tool in the initial functional assessment of children aged 6 months to 6 years. The study aimed to verify whether the results obtained using this tool provide a reliable basis for specialists in psychological and educational counseling centers to conduct further, in-depth diagnostics based on the functional model. The empirical section of the study included a comparative analysis of the results obtained using the Early Childhood Development (SRMD) tool with the results of the standardized psychological tests IDS-2 and Leiter-3, as well as information contained in previously issued judgments and opinions held by the participants. The obtained results indicate that the Early Child Development Screening (ECS) largely confirms the deficits described in the opinions and rulings of psychological and pedagogical counseling centers. There are clear similarities between the results of the Early Child Development Screening (ECS) and the IDS-2 test, while discrepancies with the Leiter-3 test are consistent with the different test specifications. The study confirms that a thorough screening significantly improves the adjudication process, allowing for more precise targeting of student support activities.
