The master’s thesis examines the effectiveness of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills training, with particular emphasis on the “Distress Tolerance” module, in a group of adult women experiencing difficulties in emotion regulation. The theoretical section presents: the historical and theoretical foundations of DBT, including the evolution of research on the therapy and the significance of the biosocial model; the neurobiological mechanisms of emotion regulation, with particular attention to the HPA axis, the amygdala, and the hippocampus; the role of stress, anger, and emotional crisis in processes of dysregulation; and the place and function of distress tolerance skills within the DBT system as key tools supporting coping in situations of overload. The empirical part of the thesis includes a quasi-experimental study with a control group, aimed at examining whether participation in the “Distress Tolerance” module influences levels of distress tolerance and selected aspects of emotion regulation. The results will be compiled and discussed after the statistical analysis is completed. The thesis highlights the practical significance of DBT as an intervention supporting individuals with heightened emotional sensitivity and points to the need for further research on the effectiveness of specific DBT skills modules.
