Abstract

Tekst stanowi połączenie analizy naukowej i osobistej perspektywy autorów na rozwój polskiego szkolnictwa wyższego po 1990 roku. W pierwszej części przedstawiono syntetyczny przegląd literatury i danych dotyczących przemian systemowych, rozwoju uczelni niepublicznych, reform ustawowych oraz wpływu czynników gospodarczych i demograficznych na funkcjonowanie uczelni. Kolejna część ukazuje doświadczenia twórcy jednej z pierwszych niepublicznych szkół wyższych w Polsce, uzupełniając obraz systemu o praktyczne obserwacje dotyczące sukcesów, barier i specyfiki tego sektora. W zakończeniu omówiono kluczowe wyzwania, takie jak starzenie się kadry, zróżnicowanie jakości kształcenia, niedofinansowanie oraz brak silnego uniwersytetu badawczego, a także przedstawiono autorską propozycję kierunków dalszego rozwoju szkolnictwa wyższego w Polsce.This text combines a scholarly analysis of the transformation of Polish higher education after 1990 with the author's personal perspective as the founder of one of the first private universities in Poland. The first part presents a concise review of literature and data on systemic reforms, the development of non-public institutions, and the impact of economic and demographic shifts on the higher education landscape. The second part offers an insider’s viewpoint on the establishment and functioning of a private university, highlighting both the opportunities and challenges characteristic of this sector. The concluding section outlines key system level challenges, including demographic pressures, staff ageing, uneven teaching quality, insufficient funding, and the absence of a strong research university. It also proposes strategic directions for the future development of Polish higher education based on the author’s long-term experience and reflections.
